Will strive for zero road accidents, says Urban SP
“Our immediate task is to ensure zero road accidents in Tirupati urban police district limits,” said Urban SP R Jayalakshmi. Speaking to The Hans India on the occasion of completing one year tenure successfully, the SP stated that she would take measures for preventing mishaps in accident prone spots on national and state highways. Jayalakshmi, the first woman SP for Tirupati Urban, said that she is implementing ‘Demo Corridor’ project between Renigunta and Railway Kodur in Kadapa district as part of road safety measures.

The 139-km highway would be patrolled by two teams headed by a DSP as part of ‘Demo Corridor’. The SP said patrolling teams are registering 100 cases on an average every day and counselling the vehicle drivers about the need to follow road safety measures.
The police official said 4 Mahila Rakshak vehicles were launched for the round-the-clock patrolling on March 8th this year for women protection. This is first-of-its-kind in AP, she added. About foolproof conduct of Brahmotsavams, the SP said police personnel, who can speak multi languages, were drafted for Seva Dal from Nellore, Prakasam and Chittoor districts for guiding pilgrims of other states especially from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
On curbing red sanders smuggling, the SP said more than 55 tonnes of red sanders logs were seized and two international smugglers from China and Malaysia were arrested in the last one year. The Urban police successfully made security arrangements for Prime Minister’s visit to the Indian Science Congress.
