Visakhapatnam: State general secretary of All India Pensioners and Retired Persons’ Welfare Association P V S L N Sastry demanded that the Central government hike the pension amount to all the EPS-95 pensioners of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) by implementing the court orders.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the HSL Pensioners’ Association here on Saturday, Sastry said that the EPS pensioners are not able to lead the life with the meagre pension in view of health problems in the old age. He alleged that the present pension amount is not at all sufficient even to meet the minimum medical expenses.

Sastry informed the meeting that the All India Pensioners and Retired Persons’ Welfare Association had staged a series of protests in the state and New Delhi demanding increase in pension amount to Rs 10,000 per month by bringing amendments to the EPS-95 Pension Scheme and to provide free medicare by providing health cards.

He said that the Apex Court and the High Courts of Kerala and Himachal Pradesh have already delivered verdicts for the increase of monthly pension amounts. How can the EPS pensioners of not only HSL but also others live if they get pension between Rs 650 and Rs 2,200, he questioned and appealed to all the EPS pensioners to collectively agitate to exert pressure on the Centre demanding implementation of court orders.
