Srikakulam: One person was reportedly surrendered before the Jalumuru police in murder of serial killer and ex-army jawan Metta Shankara Rao. But the police are not revealing details and investigating the case.

It is learn that Shankara Rao was abducted by some unidentified persons and was murdered and his body was found in the Vamsadhara River between Sumanthapuram and Dabbapadu villages in L N Peta mandal on Friday night. According to Sarubujjili sub-inspector B Ashok Babu, Shankara Rao was a native of Mettapeta village in Jalumuru mandal in Srikakulam district.

He was convicted for seven years imprisonment for killing his wife in 2005 and in that case some villagers had given evidence against him in the court.

Developing a grudge against them, Shankara Rao had killed his two children, along with five of the villagers, who gave evidence against him on November 30, 2010.

Police arrested the killer Shankara Rao and after trial Srikakulam District Sessions Court convicted him with death penalty in April 2012 for killing of seven persons, including his two children.

The convicted Shankara Rao made appeal to the High Court and the court reversed the death penalty and directed the police to handover him to Ramakrishna Paramhamsa Aashram in Visakhapatnam to bring change in his attitude.

But the ashram administration rejected to admit him. Later, Shankar went to an unknown place for some time. Recently, he joined a private company at Bobbili and staying in a rented room. For the past three months, he had started coming to his native village Mettapeta to discuss about his properties with his friends in the village.

According to Sarubujjili sub-inspector Ashok Babu, Shankara Rao was abducted and killed by his old rivals in Bobbili and the body was left in the Vamsadhara River. “We are investing the case to ascertain reasons behind his killing, the SI added.
