Three pilgrim centres in East Godavari districts, the shrine of Lord Satyadeva at Annavaram, Draksharama, the temple town of Bhimeswara known as Dakshina Kasi and the third one, Apppanapalli of Lord Balaji in Konaseema, have opted for power saving devices.

Of the three, the Annavaram temple authorities went for both solar power and LED streetlighting system and the remaining two for LED streetlighting system only.

As far as solar power is concerned, the temple will soon have 1 megawatt (1,000 kilowatt) solar power units at a cost of Rs 5.50 core .On the installation, the NREDCAP (Non-conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd) will provide 20 per cent subsidy with a warranty of 20 years. This 1 mw is expected to serve the power needs atop the Annavarram shrine completely.
As far as LED lighting system is concerned, the requirements of all the three places are expected to be around 1,000 LED lights. Of this, 900 are between Annavaram and Draksharama and the remaining for Appanapalli. The process of this installation is expected to save 50 per cent of the total costs of power.
On the total savings, 20 per cent will be paid to the concerned panchayat (civic body) and the rest of 30 per cent will be collected by the company which installs the LED lights on behalf of NREDCAP.
East Godavari NREDCAP district manager G Satyanarayana said that the solar installation process will be taken up in the 150 acre site owned by Annavaram temple adjacent to the shrine. In the next few days, the process of installations of LED lighting at all three places will also be taken up soon as the process of selecting the agency is under process, he said.
