Eluru: A cold war has begun between police and revenue departments following the district Collector K Bhaskar’s warning of issuing arrest warrants against eight sub-inspectors for not obeying his orders issued as district magistrate.

Irked by several people approaching the ‘Mee Kosam’ (grievances redressal) programme being conducted by the Collector at the district collectorate every Monday complaining about the police department not even registering FIRs, the Collector, repeated directions to the police department, warned that he would issue arrest warrants to the SIs who failed to register FIRs.

  • To deal with the matter, SP held Mee Kosam on complaints related to police cases

After the collector’s warning, the police department began holding Mee Kosam exclusively for the complaints relating to police cases.

The district superintendent of police Bhaskar Bhushan on Monday conducted the Mee Kosam at district police office and received complaints from various people.

Speaking at the programme, the SP said that the police department was conducting the Mee Kosam every Monday to solve the people’s grievances and help them get justice quickly.

He said every day hundreds of people approach police to solve their problems and on Monday exclusively the people have to utilise the Mee Kosam programme where five DSPs and an additional SP will deal with the matters related to the police department.

The sudden decision to conduct Mee Kosam programme brought to the fore fissures between the revenue and police once again. District collector Bhaskar, who conducted Mee Kosam in the past, received a plenty of complaints against police.

Of them, most were related to police not filing FIRs. The collector who is the head of the revenue department, has several times warned police to change their attitude.

However, the complaints to collector’s Mee Kosam continued. With this, the irate collector warned of using of magisterial powers against the guilty police officers.

Following the directions of the collector and warning to use magisterial powers, the police department began its grievance cell ‘Mee Kosam’ at district police office.

A police official who attended the programme said that this grievance cell by police is not against the revenue department. “Our department wants to deal with those cases that are related to police.

We will take the representations and solve those problems pertaining to police department issues,” he said.
