Blood donation awareness campaign conducted

Eluru: Ramu Surya Rao, MLC and Chairman of Eluru Government Hospital Development Committee, said that a campaign has been taken up to create awareness on blood donation among the people.He inaugurated the blood donation awareness campaign at Government hospital blood bank on Sunday. Subsequently, wearing a Lungi and carrying a drum, he passed through the main roads and campaigned about the importance of blood donation.
The MLC said that it was aimed to collect 10,000 units of blood in West Godavari district and District Collector K Bhaskar also confirmed the target. He said that the district was facing shortage of blood for its utilisation during emergency cases.
In view of this, to save a life, the youth should come forward to donate blood, he said.
He said that a special blood bank building is under construction at a cost of Rs 40 lakh at the Eluru hovernment hospital to supply blood free of cost to the thalassemia patients. Hospital Development committee member Ajay Babu, Indoor Stadium Walkers association members and others participated in the programme, The campaign which started at the government hospital went on the main streets through Fire Station Centre, Indoor Stadium and new bus stand areas. During the procession, the MLC campaigned on the importance of blood donation.
