Tirupati: The District Collector PS Pradyumna zeroed in on various problems that have plagued the Ruia Hospital in Tirupati so far. Especially the pathetic cardiology department attracted the attention of the collector at last after nearly 18 years. He asked the hospital authorities to hire a cardiologist and nephrologist on outsourcing. Though it is to be welcomed, the doctors are saying that treatment should be given first to the root cause of the problem.

Cardiology department building is in a dilapidated stage. It should be dismantled forthwith. There is no equipment in the department except a 2D Echo machine. Nor it has technicians. Without a building and equipment what can the doctor do? However, the Collector is going to organise another meeting this month with the hospital authorities in which some more clarity is expected on the future of cardiology department.

The Collector in his capacity as the Chairman of Hospital Development Committee (HDC) held a meeting of the committee in the chambers of the Superintendent for more than an hour on Sunday. Later speaking to the media he said, they have focused on providing all amenities to the patients and their attendants. He wished the hospital should have national standards. For this he asked the road map from each and every department which should clearly mention the development needs to maintain those standards.

Another meeting will be held on May 30 in which Ruia Hospital, SV Medical College and Maternity Hospital authorities will participate. They will have a detailed discussion on the road maps submitted by all the departments and finalise the action plan. The collector said that he has sanctioned the necessary approvals after reviewing the decisions taken during earlier meetings of HDC.

The collector has cancelled the tenders for enrolling patients details under the NTR Vaidya Seva, sources said. It was learnt that, he expressed displeasure over the tender policy that was adopted here. He also asked the hospital authorities about the delay in implementing the decisions taken by the previous Collector. Regarding CC cameras, he directed them to appoint a service provider who will install and maintain the CC cameras. He cleared the file to pay the money for patients to go home after treatment under NTR Vaidya Seva scheme.

This was stopped since last 20 days. Earlier, the collector visited various wards in the hospital and observed the amenities there. He also enquired about the health of patients by talking to them and their attendants. Hospital Superintendent DR BS Naik, SV Medical College Principal Dr NV Ramanaiah, CSRMO Dr Geethanjali and RMO Dr U Sri Hari were present during the visit.
