When her mother R Rukmini asked Durga Prasad about her daughter, he kept on telling her Mariyamma went to Visakhapatnam. Vexed with his answer, Rukmini a week ago lodged a complaint with Ajit Singh Nagar police over missing of her daughter.
Later, the police questioned the details to Durga Prasad regarding missing of his wife Mariyama but he claimed innocence. However, the sanitation workers on Sunday found the body of Mariyamma buried at his home at JNNURAM apartment in Vambay colony.
According to Singh Nagar police, Durga Prasad killed his wife after completion of dinner at their home in Vambay colony a month ago and buried the body near the residence. After police took him into custody and interrogated in their own style, Durga Prasad spilled the beans.
He told them that he had killed Mariyama for continuing her relationship with autorickshaw driver Nagaraju since 2013. “Mariyama and Nagaraju had been caught red handed by Durga Prasad while they were at Durga Prasad’s home. Later, he killed his wife strangulating her with a ribbon and buried the body on the backside of his house,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police G Pala Raju.
Durga Prasad had shifted his two daughters to another house near Vambay colony. Mariyama had filed a complaint against Durga Prasad in past at Nunna police station regarding harassment.Later, both were living separately. Durga Prasad got married another woman named Lakshmi. Mariyama continued her relationship with Nagaraju.
A team of doctors of New Government General Hospital conducted post-mortem where Durga Prasad buried his wife’s dead body and later handed over it to her relatives.DCP Pala Raju said that Durga Prasad was living with another woman after killing his wife Mariyama and kept on telling his daughters and Mariyamma’s mother that she went to Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam and other areas.
Nearly 260 families are living at JNNURM apartments in Vambay colony but they did not suspect that Mariyama was killed and body buried in the same colony. Durga Prasad younger daughter Rajya Lakshmi said that her father had told them that their mother went to Vishakhapatnam and other places and would return a few days later. She said that their parents used to quarrel always.
