Anantapur: Minister for Information and Housing Kalava Sreenivas directed the irrigation officials to send proposals for acquiring a second motor for pumping the water from the Sriram Reddy Drinking Water project pump house at the PABR dam in Kuderu mandal, so that he could take up the issue with the chief minister.

The minister inspected the project pump house on Sunday in the context of the break-down of the motor at the pump house resulting in disruption of water supply to scores of villages in six assembly constituencies in the project region.Sreenivas said that 11 lakh people in Kalyandurg, Madakasira and Hindupur municipalities are dependent on the scheme for drinking water. He observed that the pump house required two 825 hp motors capacity with one as a stand by motor.

He said that the crissis arose due to the lone motor developing technical snag. He congratulated the technical personnel for making untiring efforts to rectify the problem. He asked the officials to prepare proposals for purchasing a new motor for running the pump house hassle-free. Every day 63 MLD of water is required for supplying water to the 11 lakh people but presently 38 MLD of water is being supplied to everyday due to non-availability of motors for pumping water.
