Officials clash over water release
With insufficient release of water from Nagarjunasagar project (NSP), the Krishna Delta System (KDS) officials are asking higher-ups to take steps for the release of water as drinking water problem may become serious within 15 days in tail end areas.

One tmc feet of water was released from Nagarjunasagar project though Krishna River Management Board had directed to release four tmc feet of water to Krishna delta. The one tmc feet of water was stored at Pulichintala project.
However, clarity was missing on release of Nagarjunasagar project water to Krishna delta. The Krishna Delta System officials are saying that three tmc feet of water has to be released from Nagarjunasagar project while the Telangana officials announced that around four tmc feet of water to Krishna Delta and 2.5 tmc feet of water to Nagarjunasagar project right main canal has been released a few days ago.
Krishna Delta chief engineer Giridhar Reddy told The Hans India that Nagarjunasagar project officials (Telangana) should release remaining three tmc feet of water to KDS as per Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) directive. A senior official said that drinking water problem may arise within 15 days in some tail end areas such as Krithivenu mandal as there is only 40 per cent of water is stored.
“There is an urgent need for water from Sagar. But, they (Telangana officials) closed Sagar dam gates after release of one tmc feet. We are asking our higher-ups for taking measures to release of at least four tmc feet of water to Krishan delta,” he said. The present water level in Pulichintala dam is 4.79 tmc feet against its total storage capacity of 45.77 tmc feet.
Barrage executive engineer Ravi Babu, said, “We are planning to release water from the Parkasam Barrage by May 20 as the works at the barrage may be completed by then. And, we are also waiting for water from Nagarjunasagar project. No water reached the barrage in recent days due to repair works to barrage”.
