Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that both the Godavari districts turned into granary of Andhra Pradesh following the efforts of Sir Arthur Cotton.

People in Godavari districts never forget Sir Arthur Cotton who developed the area with the construction of Dowleswaram Barrage across River Akhanda Gowthami Godavari.

He said that if anyone does a good deed, people never forget him. The Collector said that the state government has speeded up the works of Polavaram irrigation project to arrest the flowing of Godavari water into sea and supply it to Krishna delta.

Irrigation SE Srinivasa Rao, MEPMA Project Director M Prakash Rao, Adult Education Deputy Director Ratnakumar and others participated in the programme.

MLC and Government Hospital Development committee chairman Ramu Surya Rao garlanded the statue of Sir Arthur Cotton at Irrigation guest house here on the occasion of the 214 birth anniversary of Cotton.

Speaking on the occasion, Surya Rao said Sir Cotton rendered invaluable service to the people and farmers of both Godavari districts by constructing the Dowleswaram Barrage.

OSD Krishna Rao, APNGOs district secretary Chodagiri Srinivas, Engineers Association state publicity cell secretary Devarakonda Venkateswarlu, irrigation executive engineer Raghunath, engineer K Raju and others participated in the programme.

They paid tributes to the departed Engineer Sir Arthur Cotton.
