Pochampally IKAT Art Mela opened
The five day Pochampally IKAT Art Mela- 2017, hand woven eco-friendly handloom products exhibition was opened at Lions Club here on Sunday. K Jayasree, wife of local MP Dr K Hari babu, formally inaugurated the mela. Joint Collector G Srijana and president of BJP Mahila Morcha Godaba Prema Kumari were present.
Visakhapatnam: The five day Pochampally IKAT Art Mela- 2017, hand woven eco-friendly handloom products exhibition was opened at Lions Club here on Sunday. K Jayasree, wife of local MP Dr K Hari babu, formally inaugurated the mela. Joint Collector G Srijana and president of BJP Mahila Morcha Godaba Prema Kumari were present.
Handlooms are a part of an age old Indian tradition - element of Indian culture and rich artistry, said the Joint Collector. “We support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations. Promoting creativity and originality, each design is a result of individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and culture,” said Chikka Krishna founder chairman-Pochampally Handloom Park.
The exhibition will end on May 18. The products on the show include home linen, dress material, silk and cotton saris in exquisite designs and contemporary colours by famous designers, skillfully created by world famous weavers of Pochampally.
