Summer camp off to a gala start

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) launched its annual summer coaching camp for school students at Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium here on Monday. Over 7,272 children enrolled for the 20-day camp, which will have 46 disciplines for coaching.

Visakhapatnam West MLA PVGR Naidu (Ganababu) was the chief guest for the event. Speaking on the occasion, he said the city would be developed as the venue for national and international games.He advised the students to take interest in sports and games along with the studies for overall development.

GVMC commissioner M Harinarayanan said training would be imparted in 46 disciplines for 20 days for which 7,272 students have enrolled. He said that training would be given in Visakhapatnam, Bhimili and Anakapalle zones. He said sports and games organisations and 250 coaches would conduct the camp.

Earlier, a march past was conducted by the students and later some of them performed figure skating, exhibited skills in marital arts, Karrasamu and Taekwondo.Additional GVMC commissioner GVS Murthy, director of sports, GVMC Dr Y Srinivasa Rao and representatives of various sports bodies participated in the inaugural ceremony.
