Gales destroy horticulture crops in East Godavari
Summer games, which hit the district for the second time on in this month on Sunday damaged horticulture crops. Banana, vegetables, mango and oil palm crops were damaged due to gales in Prathipadu, Kirlampudi, Yeleswaram, Peddapuran, Jaggampeta and Kotananduru mandals. In the earlier incident on May 1, horticulture crops were damaged and loss was pegged at Rs 22 lakh in the preliminary assessment
Kakinada: Summer games, which hit the district for the second time on in this month on Sunday damaged horticulture crops. Banana, vegetables, mango and oil palm crops were damaged due to gales in Prathipadu, Kirlampudi, Yeleswaram, Peddapuran, Jaggampeta and Kotananduru mandals. In the earlier incident on May 1, horticulture crops were damaged and loss was pegged at Rs 22 lakh in the preliminary assessment.
However, on May 14, both oil palm and mango crops were damaged. The horticulture authorities in the last three days were on preliminary assessment drive and pegged losses at Rs 1.20 crore. Speaking to The Hans India East Godavari horticulture assistant director K Gopi Kumar said that in addition to mango and oil palm banana and vegetable crops were extensively damaged. “After the final assessment, we will recommend for loss compensation to the affected farmers,” the AD informed.
