New Delhi: Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu, assured education ministers of AP and Telangana, here on Wednesday that he would speed up the process of securing the Presidential assent for the Unified Service Rules before the beginning of the next academic year.

AP minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Telangana minister Kadiyam Srihari met the Union Minister to plead with him the case of panchayat raj teachers, who were deprived of promotional avenues all these years because of the lack of such service rules.

Venkaiah Naidu, who had already spoken to the Union Home Minister in this regard, assured them that he was working on it.

The file has been cleared by the Union law ministry the other day and has been forwarded to the home ministry for its approval.

There are about three lakh teachers in both the states - one lakh in Telangana and two lakh in AP - who would reap the benefits once the rules get the Presidential assent.
