He said that as many as 116 link ponds will be connected to another 550 ponds by repairing feeder channels.

The Collector addressed the NABARD-organised “Neere Jeevanam” training programme held at District Cooperative Central Bank meeting hall on Friday.Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that the ground water levels have depleted alarmingly from eight feet to 70 feet. If the situation continued like this, the people have to face the consequences. He said that the Neere Jeevanam programme will get good results.

For this, everyone should be alert to the situation. He said the officials have to create awareness among the people on recharging of the ground water level. He stated that a plan at the village level has also been prepared to protect water. He that 2,000 TMC ft water is flowing in Godavari yearly and we are not in a position to supply water to the Godavari catchment area villages.

NABARD Assistant General Manager Ramaprabhu said NABARD has prepared a comprehensive plan to protect groundwater in one lakh villages in the country. The Collector released the campaign posters and pamphlets on this occasion. Lead Bank District Manager M Subrahmanyeswara Rao, DCCB Chief Executive Officer N Srinivas and NABARD officials participated in the training programme.
