Kurnool: The main political parties have tough time to pick candidates for Nandyal by-election as several contestants want to be in poll fray. By-election for Nandyal necessitated with the demise of MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy. It is learnt that former MP and YSRCP leader Gangula Pratap Reddy met YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday and expressed his interest to contest for Nandyal by-poll.
Highlights:
- Jagan is in a fix to pick either Gangual Pratap Reddy or Raja Gopal Reddy
- The YSRCP chief is reportedly inclined towards Gangula as he has grip over Nandyal constituency
It is a known fact that the Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya is demanding the TDP high command to select a candidate from her family members either it may be her sister Bhuma Naga Mounika Reddy or Bhuma Bhramananda Reddy. On the other hand, Silpa Mohan Reddy was also eyeing the ticket and is lobbying with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He along with his brother and MLC, Silpa Chakrapani Reddy had met the Chief Minister seeking ticket.
Without giving any assurance, Chandrababu left to the US, stating that he will finalise the candidate after his return. The TDP aspirant intensified his efforts for ticket as the TDP supremo returned to India from the US tour. At one time, rumours spread that Silpa Mohan Reddy might join YSRCP if TDP refuses to select his candidature. But with the suggestion of his brother Chakrapani Reddy, he postponed his decision to join YSRCP.
Gangula Pratap Reddy met YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday and discussed about his nomination to Nandyal by-election. It is learnt that the YSRCP wants to field a strong candidate to counter Bhuma’s family. Former MP Pratap Reddy’s meeting with YS Jagan raised curiosity among the public. A reliable source said that Pratap Reddy is having enormous grip over Nandyal constituency and will have more chances to win by-election.
On the other hand, Gangula Pratap Reddy had won a name across the country for sacrificing his MP seat to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in the 1991 elections. Pratap Reddy, who stayed away from politics for a long time, has abruptly made his mind to contest the Nandyal by-election and his sudden decision became a hot topic in the constituency.
Gangula approaching Jagan seeking Nandyal ticket, the YSRCP chief is not a position to finalise the candidate as Raja Gopal Reddy, who is an YSRCP loyalist, wants to contest. However, Jagan is reportedly more inclined towards Gangula than Gopal Reddy. Even, Sajjala Sreedhar Reddy, the son-in-law of SPY Reddy, wants to test his luck in the by-election. The fate of the aspirants is in the hands of the top bass of the political parties concerned.
