Kakinada: With as many as 50 existing IT companies in and around the two cities Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram, the IT activity is poised for further development to other places in the district and to the neighbouring West Godavari. The STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) at East Godavari collectorate has been supervising the activity under its purview in both the Godavari districts.

The IT department of AP is also playing a key role in the development of the activity in these parts. The IT activity picked up momentum since STPI came in to existence in the year 2007 at East Godavari collectorate with the special interest shown by former union minister M. M. Pallam Raju. The IT, SEZ at Sarpavaram in Kakinada suburbs under AP government gave the much needed fillip to the activity. Some prominent companies like InfoTech, Cyient, Avineon, Prominere , V- Soft and other companies are starting their activity in and around Kakinada and some more are opting for Rajamahendravaram.

In the last decade the activity has also spread to Tanuku in West Godavari and likely to reach new destinations Bhimavaram, Eluru and other places in the district. The availability of talent pool in more than 50 professional and engineering colleges, the rail, road and air connectivity besides Tier- III status to both Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram cities are also said to be a plus point for development of the activity in these parts.

STPI Joint Director B Suresh said that they have provided startup incubation facility to several new companies who later shifted to other places of their choice in the district. Now there are four companies at present being provided start up incubation in the STPI premises the JD added.
