Due to severe heat wave in Prakasam district for the past three days, 15 people were reportedly died in the district. Registering above 45 degree Celsius in day temperature is a regular phenomenon in every May but it is limited to one or two days in seven to eight places only. But this year, the high temperatures were recorded in many mandals in the district.

On Monday, Kandukur, Chinaganjam, and Desaipet registered more than 45 degree Celsius temperature and 44 of the total 56 mandals witnessed more than 40 degree Celsius.
On Tuesday, nine mandals, including Singarayakonda, Ulavapadu, Cumbum, and Kurichedu, recorded more than 45 degree Celsius while a total of 43 mandals reported 40 plus degree temperature. On Wednesday, Inkollu, Kothapatnam, and Eepurupalem recorded more than 45 degree Celsius while 43 other mandals reported more than 40 degree Celsius temperature.
On Thursday, the intensity of sun increased and 12 mandals including Maddipadu, Naguluppalapadu, Vetapalem, Singarayakonda, Ponnaluru experienced more than 45 degree Celsius temperature. A total of 45 mandals in the district witnessed 40 plus degree Celsius temperature.
The workers in the Galaxy Granite andd slate industries were suffering a lot due to the heat wave as 90 per cent of them were living under asbestos sheets covered rooms provided by the contractors. Street vendors and the push cart coolies are also fearing to enter onto the road and losing livelihood. As the officials ordered the field staff to provide shelter for the employment guarantee scheme workers and stipulated strict timing for work, they are getting some relief.
It is reported in the district that about 15 people died in the district and most of the deseeded belong to Ongole, Markapuram, Addanki and surrounding areas. About eight people died on Tuesday, five people on Wednesday and two more on Thursday
