The residents of S G Nagar, Moruganipalli, Pensioners Colony, Industrial Estate and Kameswara Nagar are using crematorium land for dumping waste.

  • Crematorium lacks basic facilities and no compound walls or fencing

It is filled with drainage water and thorny buses and making it difficult for city residents to burn dead bodies their loved ones on funeral pyre. The local companies are dumping granite waste in the crematorium. It lacks basic facilities like drinking water, no shelter and thorough way. Moreover, the crematorium is not having protection wall.

The CMC has miserably failed to develop amenities despite several appeals made by the residents of various colonies for constructing fencing or compound wall to the crematorium. Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, Mayor K Hemalatha admitted the lapses of the civic officials in development of the crematorium. “It is the responsibility of the CMC to protect the crematoriums from encroachments,” she added.

The Mayor assured of constructing compound walls, shelters and digging borewells in the crematoriums under the AMRUT scheme. She made an appeal to corporator concerned to submit a detailed report over the poor condition of the
crematorium to the CMC for getting funds.
