Amaravati: The ruling Telugu Desam party plenary Mahanadu this time has assumed significance when the rank and file of the party in two states - Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is in a confused situation over the fate of future alliance plans with two national parties like BJP and Congress. Telugu Desam had contested in the last elections in an alliance with BJP in both states.
Highlights:
- TDP cadre unsure about how the future is going to shape up with regard to possible alliances
- Cadre looking for directions on whether TDP will join hands with Congress in Telangana and stay with BJP in Andhra
After almost completion of the three years tenure now the BJP and the Telugu Desam are not aware about future ties for the next election. Actually the relationship between the two parties is at almost break- up stage in Telangana. The leaders of BJP especially Kishan Reddy are not allowing the TDP leaders to involve their party in fighting jointly against the TRS government. In this backdrop after getting vexed with the BJP attitude, the leaders of Telangana Telugu Desam are considering going with Congress party.
Already the Congress top leader Jaipal Reddy hinted the possibilities of election tie up with BJP and Telugu Desam to fight ruling TRS in Telangana. The same comments have been already by Telangana TDP president Revanth Reddy. It is a unique and unpredictable development in the history of Telugu Desam party.
On the other hand, Telugu Desam is facing similarly piquant situation in Andhra Pradesh also. The party has strong grass root level network in the State but BJP state unit is making comments on independent contest by strengthening the party for the next election.
Now the debate over future alliance with BJP sends wrong signal to the public on the strength of Telugu Desam and the situation seems that even the BJP is not interested to continue alliance but Telugu Desam is in worried position says one TDP leader on condition of anonymity.
He said the present Mahanadu has got some political significance to show a clear road map over future alliance with other parties. Interestingly one section of BJP leaders of Andhra Pradesh is opposing the continuation of alliance with Telugu Desam while Congress in Telangana has expressed interest to join hands as an election partner in Telangana.
The rank and file of Telugu Desam is in dilemma how to react on BJP and Congress party affairs on various issues in the two states. Now the time has come for TDP supremo to provide directions to his soldiers. MLC TD Janardhan said that his party top brass knows how to deal with the issues and he would take decisions at an appropriate time.
