Tirupati: Protesting against the sale of life saving drugs through online, the All India Chemists and Druggists Association has called for ‘All India Chemists bandh’ on Tuesday. The association is demanding to withdraw the statutory permissions given to online ‘e-pharmacy business’ and opposing the changes in the Drugs Act.

Chittoor district Chemists & Druggists association president PV Ratnam speaking to the media in Tirupati on Monday said that inferior medicines will enter the market with online e-pharmacy business. By using the medicines without doctors prescription, patients may develop drug reactions. Duplicate medicines will flood the market, he said and added that youth may ruin their lives by using certain syrups which cause intoxication, i-pills and MTP Kits.

In order to benefit some corporate forces, the government is bringing the e-pharmacy policy, he fumed. To expose the serious problems involved in it, the association has called for all India bandh, he said.

The association leaders said that eight lakh chemists and 80 lakh worker families will lose employment. The members of the association will organise a bike rally from 8 am on Tuesday from Tyagaraja Mandapam to Sub Collector’s office. Association leaders D Narasimhulu, Mallikarjuna Reddy and Sampath were present.
