About 70 acres of land is available for establishing sports school for promoting and encouraging sports persons,” he added.

SAAP vice-chairman interacted with newsmen at his chamber at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium, here on Wednesday. “We have excellent infrastructure and coaches at Dr YSR Sports School, Kadapa and as per new sports policy, the state government decided to establish new sports school at Vizianagaram,” he informed and added that Vizzy Stadium has excellent football, kho-kho, kabaddi and athletics track.

Stating that Rajeev Stadium in Vizianagaram was being revamped with a cost of Rs 2 crore, Raju claimed that SAAP has been spending money for the development of sports facilities in all districts.Regarding Dr YSR Sports School in Kadapa, “Army Sports School chief coach Prasad Reddy will be appointed as chief officer and he will take charge very soon. Sports school has excellent coaches in all disciplines and within short period two or three international players will be developed,” he said.

SAAP VC informed that Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium was not suitable for setting up of Synthetic track and the same report was sent by Sports Authority of India (SAI) director general Srinivas. Recently, SAI DG Srinivas visited and inspected IGMC stadium outfield.

Later, Srinivas submitted detailed report to SAI and suggested that Rs 5 crore that was sanctioned for IGMC should be used for Kommadi stadium, which has been maintained by SAAP, Raju said. He made it clear that there were no proposals for taking IGMC stadium from Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).

“SAAP has been funding Rs.27.50 crore for arranging Synthetic track at Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds. Andhra Pradesh Athletics Association will conduct National athletics championship from July 15,” he informed.
