DSO dispels plastic rice rumours

Kakinada: East Godavari district civil supplies officer (DSO) Vemuri Ravikiran appealed to the public not to believe in rumours about sale of plastic rice. He on Friday said that special vigil has been underway by civil supplies department and no such sale has been observed. The DSO clarified that there are five types of tests, which can be conducted on rice of suspicious nature. These are water test, boiling test, hot oil test, fire test and fungus test.
“In the conduct of water test, the plastic contents will surface on the top of the vessel. Similarly in boiling test the difference can also be noticed. In the conduct of hot oil test or fire test the difference can also be noticed. In the last of the suggested test, in natural cooked rice fungus will be formed after some time,” the DSO clarified.
