Nellore: Plans of the government have frequently been changing with fresh proposals from time to time and the classic example is the proposed mini harbour planned to be constructed at Juvvaladinne in Bogole mandal with Rs. 200 cr being considered now at various places between Krishnapatnam Port and Chennai harbour.

A central team visited Vakadu mandal on Saturday and the commissioner of fisheries department announced that they were considering KP Palem in TP Gudur, RKT Palem in Muthukur, Juvvladinne in Bogole mandal, and Kondurupalem in Vakadu mandal.

The union government had deputed a team of officials a couple of years ago on possibilities of a mini harbour in Bogole mandal and the state fisheries department has sent proposals for such facility at Juvvaladinne recently.

The harbour has been a long pending request from the fishermen community in Nellore district who were facing indescribable hardships due to lack the facility. In fact, the harbour provides a safe landing point for fishing boats on a regular basis and also to safeguard their gear too.

The facility was proposed long back and the union government engaged a team of experts from the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery for survey on the mini harbour in August 2014 and decided to be taken up Juvvaladinne for the facility.

The fisheries department proposed to construct the mini harbour in 25 acres of land and sent the proposal to the ministry of shipping and other line departments.

Now, there are 349 fish landing points in the entire state in which above 75 are in Nellore district at Iskapalli, Utukukuru, Mypadu, Pathapalem, Upputeru at Krishnapatnam, Tamminpatnam, Arkatpalem, Kothapatnam, Kondur, Dugarajapatnam, and Pulinjerikuppam were old and important centres.

With the coming up of harbour there would be comfortable point for the fishermen in the coastal areas. The central team along with state fisheries officials visited Kondurupalem and Anjalapuram for verifying feasibility issues basing on the availability of land. Now, they are not considering only a feasible village at the coast but are also checking connectivity to the national highway 16 as the cold storages and jetties will come up in the area.
