Tirupati: Tirupati urban police office, established in 120-year- old SV high school building of TTD at Prakasam road in the heart of the city is facing leakages due to the rains that lashed Tirupati three days ago. The computers in the office were damaged and are kept aside now.

The DPO crime bureau record work has been totally disturbed with rain leakages. Several computers have reached the defunct stage. The special branch, technical team chambers at this office are facing same situation when it rains.

Almost six years back state government had established Tirupati Urban police district, delineating it from Chittoor police. At that time police department had set up district police headquarters at present building. Since that time urban police authorities submitted proposals several times to the government for an own new building for DPO. However it has not materialised with the proposal pending with state revenue department.

This lack of action on construction of new building for DPO office has made its running to continue with present antique building. The police personnel and officers working here do not feel secure.

The TTD also requested the police to vacate the building due to the repairs and leakages, but the department is helpless as they have no alternative accommodation for office functioning. This situation has continued since four years for the police staff in rainy seasons specially June to August and October to December in monsoon season.

One senior police officer of the urban district speaking to The Hans India said that ‘our higher authorities wrote DO letters several times to state home and revenue departments for urban DPO new building. But there has been no proper response from district revenue authorities also’ he added.
