From this academic year, the RTA officials were directed by the government to be very strict on the fitness of the buses in the light of series of accidents that have taken place all over the state during last two years. A senior official said of the 1148 buses, till Monday around 705 buses obtained NOC, after passing the fitness test. There are about 250 new buses and the officials asked the managements not to ply old vehicles. Around 100 buses are yet to approach the RTA for fitness test.

Tests are also being conducted in the rural areas. Of the 400 buses under the Narsipatnam revenue division, 90 percent of them underwent fitness test and obtained no objection certificates, which is more than the urban area.The RTA officials asked the school managements to take buses off the road which have plied for more than 15 years.

Almost all the schools, colleges have re-opened on Monday. From this academic year, all the buses have adopted the speed governance. RTA officials said they have tested the speed limits of the buses observed through speed governance, reflectors, first aid kits, gap between seats, emergency windows and fire equipment.
