Kakinada: CPM East Godavari unit organised dharna at the Collectorate in the district on Monday protesting against the sharp rise in unauthorised aquaculture units in the district.Addressing the gathering, the CITU district unit general secretary M Veeralakshmi called upon the rural women folk who assembled in large numbers that the time had come to fight united battle against the increasing unauthorised aquaculture units.
She alleged that the authorities were not intervening because of involvement of ruling party leaders in several places.
Party East Godavari secretary D Seshu Babji said that because of the liberal attitude of authorities, several areas in Konaseema in the district were polluted with saline water and even the irrigation and drainage water system got polluted due to use of saline water for aquaculture.
The veteran leader demanded for strict action to control this unauthorised practice otherwise people will face severe drinking water shortage despite the presence of river Godavari. Large number of women from Karapa, Kajuluru, Mummidivaram and Amalapuram areas participated in the dharna.
