The celestial wedding of Goddess Lalita with the deity Sangameswara Swamy was held at in the auspicious Abhijit lagna on the banks of the confluence of seven rivers Sangameswaram near here on Monday.

Atmakur (Kurnool): The celestial wedding of Goddess Lalita with the deity Sangameswara Swamy was held at in the auspicious Abhijit lagna on the banks of the confluence of seven rivers Sangameswaram near here on Monday.

The event marked the recommencement of the ritual of offering Vadi Biyyam to the Goddess Lalita, the ritual last performed 25 years ago. Thousands of devotees from Telugu states made it to the pilgrimage centre to witness the celestial event. After taking a holy dip in the confluence of rivers, devotees observed fasting.

Temple priest and Vedic scholar Telakapalli Raghurama Sarma conducted the wedding amidst chanting of Vedic hymns. Abhishekam, Archana and other rituals were performed to the Vepadaaru Sivalingam in the sanctum-sanctorum of the Sangameswara temple. Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi (RPS) president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy, District Collector Satyanarayana’s spouse Swarnasri along with her sons performed special pujas at the temple.

Swarnasri offered Vadi Biyyam and saris to the Goddess Lalita. The celestial wedding was celebrated seeking to render good to all, to drive away drought from the soil of the state and prosperity and that the Srisailam reservoir is full with water. After the wedding, Vasanthotsavam and Gramotsavam was performed to the processional deities.

Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s spouse Ganta Sarada and other members of the family witnessed the celestial wedding and offered Vadi Biyyam to the deities.
