Anantapur: The Anantapur mandal tahsildar office appears to be in shambles with 16 of the 28 village revenue officers posts being vacant apart from a revenue inspector, a senior assistant and a civil supplies office assistant post remaining unfilled. While the tahsildar office is the most visited office with common people from 28 villages in the mandal approaching the office with some problem, petition, grievance or the other.
Highlights:
- The present tahsildar Srinivas is reportedly went on leave due to intense work pressure arising out of protocol duties
- Villagers, farmers call staff on telephone and abuse them with filthy language for not being available to attend to their grievances
Being located in the district headquarters, it is all the more in demand with students, employees, farmers and people from rural areas coming on a daily basis to the office. For nearly three months, the tahsildar office is running with an in-charge tahsildar as the present tahsildar Srinivas is on leave reportedly due to intense work pressure arising out of protocol duties which is taking a toll of their time and energy.
Being the district headquarters, Union Ministers, state Ministers, state officials from government and judiciary apart from people's representatives visit the district on a daily basis. The tahsildar, revenue inspector and the VROs were required to give most of their time and their own money.
Revenue personnel say they are forced to borrow money and provide hospitality to the guests until the funds are released. Hospitality includes food and even hot drinks. The revenue personnel on anonymity told The Hans India that they are forced to slog from as early as 7 am to 11 pm in the night doing odd jobs and everything except their actual work.
They bemoaned that the villagers and farmers are calling them on telephone and abusing them with filthy language for not being available to them and not attending to their grievances. No one is really willing to take charge as tahsildar.
The current tahsildar Srinivas is known to be sincere, hard working and a workaholic but he reportedly went on leave unable to put up with pressure of protocol duties. There is a demand that the tahsildar and the VROs should be relieved of protocol duties so that they can do justice to their original job demands.
The protocol duties are highly demanding and unproductive and taking away most of their time and energies, they added. District Collector G Veera Pandian, who is known to be pro-poor, should take an objective view of the problem and ensure that the revenue personnel are available to the people particularly the rural mandal. Administratively there is a feeling that the urban and rural mandals should be demarcated to better serve the rural people.
