Hyderabad: Hundreds of people from across Telangana gathered to bid a tearful farewell to the departed poet and Jnanpeeth Awardee Dr C Narayana Reddy, at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills this afternoon.The State government conducted the final rites of Dr C Narayana Reddy, who breathed his last a couple of days ago following a brief illness, with State honours.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiyam Srihari, Mohammed Mahamood Ali, Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, A Indrakaran Reddy, MLAs, MPs, MLCs and Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan participated in the funeral procession, which began from Sarawashat Parishat. A large number of poets, writers, litterateurs, fans and followers of Cinare, as Narayana Reddy was popularly known, participated in the procession and final rites.
Earlier Indrakaran Reddy, Srinivas Yadav, Sahitya Academy Chairman Nandini Sidda Reddy and others paid last respects to Narayana Reddy at the Parishat Hall. Later, the body was taken out in procession en route Abids, Nampally, Lakdi-ka-pool, Mehdipatnam and Toli Chowki and reached Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills where his mortal remains were consigned to flames at 2.15 pm.
It may be mentioned here that the State government also arranged transport facility for people who came from districts to attend the final rites.  Earlier, The body of the Jnanapith awardee was kept for public viewing at Saraswath Parishad, Abids, on Wednesday morning, where his fans, disciples, writers, singers, poets from districts, and several well-wishers from Sircilla, Karimnagar and Hanmajipet village paid their last respects.
Meanwhile, Governor of the two Telugu States’ E S L Narasimhan paid rich tributes to the poet, litterateur and Jnanpeeth Awardee Dr Cingireddy Narayana Reddy at Saraswath Parishat Hall at Abids where his body was kept for public visit for some time.
Talking to media persons later, the Governor got nostalgic and said C Narayana Reddy alone used to call him by full name ‘Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi (ESL) Narasimhan’. “Indeed, we together used to participate in every programme in Ravindra Bharathi and Cinare used to call me by full name,” Narasimhan recalled. “Though Cinare is not among us, his songs, poems and free verses are with us,” he said. Narasimhan extended sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed that Cinare’s soul rest in peace.
