Maha Prastanam scheme to be introduced in King George Hospital

Emergency Medicine block inaugurated

Visakhapatnam: Efforts are on to introduce Maha Prastanam scheme (for shifting of bodies) from the King George Hospital (KGH) soon after getting approval from the Cabinet, according to Medical and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas.

After inaugurating the emergency medicine and blood change Block constructed at a cost of Rs 5.3 crore here on Wednesday, the Minister held a review meeting with hospital superintendent Dr G Arjuna, RMOs and HoDs to assess the functioning of the hospital and steps to be taken to redress the pending problems.

Initiating the discussion, he assured that the government would soon appoint medical officers and the staff to serve the emergency medicine and the blood change wings and also announced granting 50 beds to each wing. He said these two wings would be helpful to perform emergency surgeries to those met with road accidents or other mishaps and directed the medical officers to provide best medicare to the injured until they recover fully.

“The government has already provided necessary infrastructure and other facilities to the KGH and is still ready to provide more if necessary. But the government wanted the medical staff to serve the poor by keeping all required medicines ready. Furthermore, modalities will also be framed for the maintenance of Maha Prastanam scheme,” he added.

Hospital superintendent Dr Arjuna appealed to the Minister to initiate necessary steps to fill up the vacant posts of medical officers and staff in the emergency and out-patient wings to serve the poor better. Hospital deputy superintendent Dr N V Vijay Kumar, RMOs Dr Vijay Gopal, Dr Bangaraiah and Dr Sastry were also present.
