Vijayawada: The long pending Gunadala R&B flyover issue came to limelight once again with the Congress party staging a protest here on Saturday. The proposed bridge, which connects outskirts of the city to Eluru Road at Gunadala, has been pending from 2009 even as pillars were constructed near Budameru then.

A protest was staged led by City Congress president Malladi Vishnu at Gunadala on Saturday opposing the inordinate delay in the construction of the flyover. The then Congress government had accorded permission for the construct of flyover across three canals of Budemeru, Rivas and Eluru canal at a cost of Rs 36 crore and foundation stone was laid in February 2009. Works were started erecting pillars near Budemeru canal, but there was no progress in work till now.

The flyover will benefit the people of Ajit Singhnagar, Payakapuram, Kandrika, Ambapuram, Nunna and some other areas in vicinity allowing them to reach Eluru Road, Ring Road, Benz Circle and Autonagar. It is a difficult task to travel daily to students, employees and other workers by buses from outskirt areas to Eluru Road, M G Road and Autonagar in overcrowded buses amid severe traffic on Budameru flyover.

“The traffic problem on, Budemeru flyover and Eluru Road will also be resolved if the flyover is constructed” Vishnu said.
However, R&B department has reportedly sent a fresh proposal with revised estimation of Rs 55 crore, but in vain. “The R&B, railway, Transco and irrigation departments have to coordinate to resume the works, but the district administration has taken no steps in this regard,” he lamented.

On other hand, around 200 houses have to be removed in the proposed alignment for flyover and government should take a decision on rehabilitation and resettlement package, he said. Vishnu alleged that the Telugu Desam government put the flyover construction works on back burner and did not take any significant steps during the past three years.
