Tirupati: Minister for agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that the yields for various crops in North Andhra were very low when compared to South Andhra and to address this problem the government a review meeting would be held on June 24.

Speaking to media at Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), here on Thursday, the minister said that steps would be taken to increase the yields in those areas.

“RARS will get Rs 11.50 crore for various development works including Rs 4 crore for centre of excellence which will conduct extensive research on groundnut. Additional funds for new buildings and roads will be sanctioned after reviewing the proposals,” he said.

He appreciated the scientists in RARS for their research on various varieties of groundnut. He said that they were doing good work on how to reduce chemical fertilisers.

The Minister made it clear that the government was spending more funds for mechanisation. Also, input subsidy of Rs 1,680 crore was released and Rs 511 crore was distributed towards crop insurance. He revealed that the government would give micro nutrients to farmers free of cost.
