Guntur: New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation (NEDCAP) would set up 4-MW Net-Metering System at temporary Secretariat in Velagapudi to generate 16,000 units of solar power per day for consumption at a cost of Rs 20 crore.
Following the instructions of the higher officials in the government, the NEDCAP submitted proposals to the government.

Initially, the government agreed to set up 1 MW solar net metering system at parking lot in the temporary secretariat to produce 4,000 units per day at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The officials are waiting for the GO from the government.

According to official sources in the NEDCAP, the temporary Secretariat is consuming 16,000 units per day and paying Rs 9.50 per unit. In future, the power consumption would increase further. Meanwhile, the government is encouraging solar power generation and giving subsidy to the solar power units.

As a part of this programme, the government is in favour of setting up of 1 MW Solar Net-Metering System at parking lot in the temporary Secretariat at a cost of Rs 5 crore during the first phase.

Later, it will set up another 3 MW Net-Metering System. If temporary secretariat consumes this power, they need not pay bill to SPDCL for consuming the power. If they did not use this power, this solar power will go to grid, for which it will pay money.
The government has a proposal to set up Solar Net-Metering System in all the government hospitals in the state in a phased manner. Local bodies, corporate educational institutions have also set up Net -Metering System. This system was also set up in Guntur Zilla Parishad office.

New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation district project manager G Harinath Babu, said: “We are waiting for the GO from the government to set up 1 MW Solar Net-Metering System in the temporary Secretariat. The government will get back its investment within six years. Power bills of the government will come down. No maintenance expenditure for Solar Net Metering System."
