Kakinada: East Godavari District Collector Kartikeya Mishra said that top priority would be accorded to the development of communication facilities in interior areas of agency mandals in the district. He preferred the V-SAT system as no mobile system or Ham radio system is effective in these parts.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, the Collector explained the difficulties faced by the district authorities on June 17 midnight in reaching the interior Chaparai hamlet under Boddagandi village in Y Ramavaram mandal. Mishra said that out of the 40 hamlets atop the hill, Chaparai is one among the 13 on one side.

There was no proper way for about 41 km to reach the hamlet. Similarly, there was no communication system, making it difficult for the authorities to reach the district headquarters. The officials had to trek long distance to reach Chaparai, the Collector said.

Turning his attention to the medical situation in agency mandals in East Godavari district, the Collector said that the situation was stable and measures are being made to provide medical care to the needy at the earliest.

In all, 60 persons have been shifted to hospitals in Rampachodavaram and Kakinada government hospital for better medical care, the Collector said.

With regard to the incident at Chaparai habitation, ITDA PO had been asked to submit a detailed report, Kartikeya Mishra said.
