  • IAS officer conducts a confidential survey at Pechhervu Gudem in Nallamala forest
  • Mamata Kulkarni finds not even 10 per cent of the schemes are reaching the tribals

The tribal hamlet has no pucca road for the past 150 years. She surveyed over 200 Chenchus and was moved at their plight. It was the first instance of an IAS officer conducting a survey for about 12 hours. She sought to know from them how they can survive diseases like malaria, typhoid, anaemia, tuberculosis and diarrhoea.

She was surprised at the style of functioning of the Integrated Tribal Development Authority at Srisailam and wondered on knowing that at least 10 per cent of the schemes are not reaching the tribals. She also enquired about the people’s health, amenities like education, roads and electricity and implementation of the welfare schemes for them.

She will conduct a survey on the living conditions of the Chenchus in Janala and Pechhervu and submit a report to the Governor and the Chief Minister within a week. She was accompanied by Dr Anil Kumar and health supervisor Vijay Kumar.
