Melwyn Rego assumed charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Syndicate Bank here on Saturday. Prior to joining the bank, he was the MD & CEO of Bank of India.

Bengaluru: Melwyn Rego assumed charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Syndicate Bank here on Saturday. Prior to joining the bank, he was the MD & CEO of Bank of India.

He also held the position of deputy managing director, IDBI Bank Ltd. He is a career banker and has been with IDBI Bank Ltd since 1984. Rego was deputed to IDBI Home Finance Ltd as Managing Director & CEO in September 2003 after IDBI took over Tata Home Finance Ltd.

Rego returned to IDBI in January 2008 and took over as head of international banking division to spearhead IDBI's overseas initiatives. He has extensive international experience and was a rank holder at a programme on International Capital Markets at Oxford University, UK. He has also participated in several seminars including those organized by Entrepreneurship Development Institute / World Bank at Washington.
