Hundreds of workers staged huge dharna at Dharna chowk in Vijayawada on Monday demanding the Government to pay minimum salary of Rs.18,000 and resolve the pending problems being faced by the workers for a long time. The dharna was conducted in response to the call given by the State CITU unit protesting against the inaction of the State government to concede their demands.

Vijayawada: Hundreds of workers staged huge dharna at Dharna chowk in Vijayawada on Monday demanding the Government to pay minimum salary of Rs.18,000 and resolve the pending problems being faced by the workers for a long time. The dharna was conducted in response to the call given by the State CITU unit protesting against the inaction of the State government to concede their demands.

CITU activists also staged a dharna at the collectorate in Machilipatnam. However, the police have arrested the angry protestors including CITU State General Secretary M Gafoor, CPM state committee member Ch Babu Rao, West Krishna secretary DV Krishna, CITU leader N Supraja, Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham state secretary V Venkateswarlu and others were arrested and shifted to rural police stations.

Speaking on the occasion State General Secretary M Gafoor has alleged the State Government is diverting the funds of construction workers welfare fund for other purposes and not implementing important schemes like Chandranna Bheema. He alleged the Government is not responding to the agitation launched by Asha workers, Mid-day meals workers, anganwadi workers, electricity employees contract workers and many others.

CPM state secretariat member Ch Babu Rao said that the State government turning a blind to the problems of the workers in the State. He has warned the CITU would intensify the agitation demanding the Government to concede their justified demands.
