Vizag land scam: SIT banks on sat imagery
The three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing into the alleged land scam in Visakhapatnam, is using advanced satellite imagery to identify the boundaries of the lands.

The three-member SIT comprising DIG (Greyhounds) Vineet Brijlal, joint collector of Visakhapatnam G Srijana and deputy executive officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Lanka Vijay Sarathi started their probe into the alleged large scale of land scams in the district.
Sources said that the SIT was not only depending on revenue department records but decided to study the land details by using satellite imagery. There are several agencies that provide previous and present images.
With the help of Advanced Data Processing Research images and details, it could be easy to get an idea on the topography of the land earlier and now. The district administration has also provided some images on alleged lands. As the joint collector is also member in the SIT, they already have the details of encroachments of government lands.
SIT chief Vineet Brijlal is harping on advanced technology to locate land boundaries and water resources in the lands in question.
The official sources said that, the SIT before hitting the ground running wish to study the satellite images and data provided by research institutions.
“For any land, the mother record is adangal followed by field measurement book. Though some employees and officials tampered the records, it is not possible to tamper the adangal.
With advanced satellite information available, once the SIT completes its study, it is easy to find the culprits. Even the SIT asks the owners, who claims that the land belongs them to submit their records for verification,” a senior revenue official said.
The SIT started its work and receiving the complaints from the general public. Till July 1, the SIT has registered as many as 428 complaints. SIT chairman Vineet Brijlal informed that out 428 complaints, only 18 are related to the tampering of land records. The other 410 complaints were various private and other issues. However, all the complaints would be checked,” he assured.
