G L Puram : Tribals, who are living at Kallati, a hilltop village, in GL Puram mandal of the district, were surprised to see the Collector in front of their door steps.

Kallati, which is 150 km from the district headquarters, was deprived of basic amenities and road to reach the hamlet. The tribals, who are staying there, never saw any official visiting their hamlet, while sometimes they witnessed the police and greyhounds who come for combing operation.

The locals appealed the government to lay road to reach their village many a time, but in vain. Even they did not have medical facilities to take treatment if they suffer from seasonal diseases.

Finally, Collector Vivek Yadav, along with K Lakshmisa, the project officer of ITDA, Parvathipuram, went to the village on foot on Wednesday. They reached the village after two hours of trekking hills, streams and mounds.

Tribals accorded the Collector a warm welcome by beating drums and blowing horns. The Collector assured to sanction funds to lay road to the village and advised them to maintain cleanliness in streets.

Later, they distributed sewing machines to the women and handed over the packets of seeds to the tribal farmers. RDO of Parvathipuram K Sudarsana Dora and others accompanied the Collector. The Collector spent some time with the children of the village and interacted with the public.
