Visakhapatnam: Owners of the food outlets are on cloud nine as the civic body has given a nod for putting up their stalls. It may be recalled that the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) authorities removed mobile food courts near the VUDA City Central Park four months ago.

With the repeated pleas submitted by the vendors to GVMC authorities, the permission was accorded to nearly 12 food courts from July 1. Some of the stalls stationed near Siripuram were also relocated to the City Central Park area and all of them were instructed to do business from 4 pm to 10 pm, according to sources.

“We have informed the owners not to station their stalls in front of Visakha Government Women’s Degree College as it causes traffic snarls. Instead, we directed them to keep their outlets on the park side road to avoid traffic woes. Considering that these stalls help generating livelihood to many, we took the decision,” said Chakradhar, Zone III Commissioner.

However, the vendors said that they are yet to receive any official letter from the civic body authorities who promised to give registration numbers for each stall put up in the area.

“For the past three months, we have been struggling to eke out livelihood. Surely, the decision by the GVMC officials has brought cheers in our lives,” said Chakravarthy, who runs a mobile food court.

The food outlets have been set up in the area to cater to the needs of public visiting the City Central Park during evenings. When the GVMC authorities evicted stalls, the vendors cried foul for ruining their livelihood.

“Our friends sit near the park to spend evening time. We felt bad when the authorities removed the food outlets. After that there was no one who served snacks at a reasonable price. But, now we welcome the move by GVMC. It is a good job,” said Chaitanya.

“We are witnessing unemployment. So, it is important to encourage small businesses to solve the crisis. Now, when I see these stalls again here, Pelli Choopulu movie came to mind,” said 61-year-old Venkateswara Rao.
