Tirupati: There was a galore of protests separately by political parties on various issues in the pilgrim city on Wednesday. payment of minimum wage of Rs 18,000 as stipulated by the Centre to the 12,000 employees working on contract basis and extending time scale to eligible contract employees working for more than five years, rehabilitation of the displaced persons of Tirumala and providing jobs to the orphans of TTD orphanage Balamandir.

City Congress president Mallikarjuna, senior activist M Gopal Reddy and other were present. TDP women activists led by former Telugu Mahila district president Pushpavathi staged a dharna in Nalugukalla Mantapam centre against YSRCP MLA Roja for her objectionable remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. They also burned the effigy of Roja.

Pushpavathi said they will not remain silent if Roja did not stop attacking the Chief Minister and Minister Lokesh for every issue tarnishing their image and she has been indulging in a malicious propaganda against the TDP, TDP leader said. The CPI activists conducted a dharna before Sub-Collector’s office here against the TDP government failure to keep its election promise to the youth.

Addressing the gathering, CPI city secretary C Penchalaiah said that the Chief Minister 2014 Assembly election promised jobs to every unemployed youth but the only job he provided was to his son Lokesh by making him a Minister.

A section of the residents of Scavenger’s Colony also staged a dharna before office of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) here opposing the corporation to move to construct a multi-storeyed complex replacing the existing the old houses in the colony. MCT Commissioner C Hari Kiran said that the corporation would hold a meeting with all the residents of the colony again to resolve the issue amicably.

A dharna before the Celkon Company near Renigunta was organized by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanding the company management to provide employment to local youth. DYFI district secretary S Jayachandra alleged that company is engaging only outsiders leaving the well qualified local youth.

He said the DYFI along with other like-minded parties intensify the stir if the management failed to consider the local unemployed youth for jobs in the company. Senior Congress leader and former MP Chintha Mohan also participated in the protest in support of local youth.
