Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Telugu medium high schools, which changed to English medium schools, will pay special attention to improve the English language and Mathematics among the children.

More than 12,000 students are studying in high schools run by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. These high schools are getting pass percentage more than 85 per cent in the SSC pubic examinations.

As per the state government policy, all 28 Telugu medium high schools in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation were changed to English medium from this academic year 2017-18.

More than 2,000 students are studying Class X in these high schools this academic year. Teachers working in VMC high schools are trying to explain the lessons in English and cultivating the habit of speaking in English.

The state government had firmly decided to change all Telugu medium high schools in the municipalities and municipal corporations into English medium.

As part of the efforts to improve the Mathematics subject, one hour extra classes will be taken up in the evening daily after closure of the school. Special care will be taken on the children who are poor in Mathematics.

After some months, extra classes will be started in the morning hours also for the Class X students. Vijayawada Municipal commissioner J Nivas on Wednesday conducted a review meeting with the head masters of 28 schools at Karnati Ramamohana Rao School at Suryaraopet and instructed the HMs to start extra classes from July 7.

He asked the teachers to emphasise on improving the English language and and communication skills.
