Kadapa: The police arrested Kothapalli Kasim Peera (24) of Khajipet mandal on Thursday and recovered 459 grams of gold from the accused. Speaking to the media here, District SP Babuji Attada said that the accused used to gain the confidence of elderly women by pretending as a municipal employee.

On the pretext of sanctioning old age pensions to them, the SP said that the accused used to take them to fake offices in an auto or two-wheeler. Before entering the offices, the accused used to collect gold ornaments from them by saying that officials may not sanction old age pension if they see them wearing gold ornaments.

The SP stated that the accused used to flee from the spot after elderly women entered the fake offices. Kasim Peera had committed 15 offences in Proddatur town, Jammalamadugu, Mydukur, Kadapa and Kamalapuram in the last 6 months. Babuji Attada said that the accused used to target elderly women in urban areas only.
