Amaravati: Minister for health and medical education Kamineni Srinivas said that state government for the first time in India introduced Arogya Raksha, a family health insurance scheme as a universal health coverage scheme for above poverty line (APL) families.

In a meeting with representatives of Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, University of Washington and National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH) at Secretariat on Thursday on implementation of Arogya Raksha scheme, Kamineni said that the scheme was intended to provide health insurance cover to every individual in a family on payment of monthly premium Rs 100 for head per year.

The beneficiaries can cover for 1,044 ailments under the scheme. The minister said the state government was ready to receive suggestions from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for implementation of the scheme. “The government wants that every individual in the state can be brought under health insurance coverage” he said.

He also said he would visit Agency areas for one week from July 9 to review the situation on seasonal deceases. Principal secretary Poonam Malakondaiah, Bill gates foundation’s representatives Alikesh, Ushakiran, and others were present.
