Amaravati: Stating that government is not consider liquor as a revenue source to state exchequer, Minister for excise Kothapalli Samuel Jawahar suggested people that they should contact him over the phone, if they have any complaints over setting up new liquor shops in residential areas.

Addressing a press conference at Secretariat on Thursday, Jawahar said he directed officials to take steps to shift liquor shop among residential areas with immediate effect.

He said that he received 13 complaints across the State about agitations of women against setting of liquor shops among residential areas and 11 of them had already been resolved.

“People can contact me directly over the phone (9951314101), if they have any grievances against liquor shops. I will take action over the complaints within 24 hours,” he said.

He also condemned the allegations of Opposition party that the government was considering liquor as a big revenue source.
“There is no truth in allegations that the government has set targets on liquor sales to increase its revenue,” he said.

Explaining measures taken to control belt shops, the minister said cases were registered against 6,324 belt shops and 2,901 persons had been arrested for violation of rules in sale of liquor and 106 vehicles were also ceased.“We will not allow any violation of rules in setting up or maintenance of shops,” he said.
