Ensure water supply to tail-end lands: Uma

Vijayawada: Irrigation minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao on Friday directed the officials to ensure water supply from Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to the tail-end lands in Krishna district.

Participating as chief guest at the 29th Krishna district water distributary committee meeting here, the minister said the project committee chairmen, state apex committee members and engineering officials should take appropriate measures for water supply.

He informed that River Godavari water entered Krishna district through Pattiseema project on June 26 and was released into east canals of Krishna delta through Prakasam barrage. He asked the distributary committee heads, water body chairmen and officials to take initiative for supply of water to tail-end areas.

Stating that the state government has introduced water bodies in an unprecedented manner in the country, the Minister said that it had created 36,000 posts for water bodies for smooth supply of water to all farmers. The government would bring an act soon and hold elections to these committees to ensure transparency in water distribution, he added.
