Visakhapatnam: Strongly opposing the government order for direct recruitment of assistant professors in the medical colleges, Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors’ Association (APGDA) demanded its withdrawal and give priority to the in-service doctors as teaching assistants.

The state government issued GO NO 108 on July 6 permitting the director of medical education to fill the vacant posts of assistant professors through direct recruitment in the teaching hospitals and medical colleges in the state.

The government in its orders gave permission to recruit 198 assistant professors directly in 31 departments across the state. The association said the government had issued the GO although a large number of in-service government doctors are awaiting to move as a faculty.

“With this GO, the career of in-service doctors will be badly affected. Without conducting the lateral entries, the principal secretary, medical and health, issued GO 108 for direct recruitment of assistant professors.

Not giving the opportunity to the in-service specialists, how the government will take up direct recruitment” The APGDA is strongly opposing the direct recruitment of teaching staff,” said state secretary general of APGDA P Shyam Sundar.

He demanded that the government appoint in-service doctors as teaching assistants and if more posts are there then recruitment can be made directly.
