Amaravati: Former minister Konathala Ramakrishna wrote a letter to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanding the state government to launch the Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi Irrigation Project works.

Nearly 1,200 villages will get drinking water and 8 lakh acres would get irrigation facility from the project, he stated in the letter. Ramakrishna said that only 10 lakh acres in Uttarandhra got irrigation facility against the total of 30 lakh acres.

He said that former chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy laid the foundation stone for the project. But the project has been neglected after the Telugu Desam government came to power, he said.

Though the TDP promised it in its manifesto, it failed to implement the project, the former minister recalled. Even though the government made an announcement towards the project completion in the recent Mahanadu held in Visakhapatnam, but there was no improvement in the project status, he regretted.
